Dune: Awakening Guides and Resources9 min read

General Info

This is my first Funcom game and my first time playing a game in this genre too with ~ 800 hours of play, ~600 hours on current character. I am a PvE player (Planetologist maxed with a lot of Bene Geserit) and will completely suck at PvP stuff. I am in a small guild on a private server but am the only person still playing and have played independent the whole time so I can maximize my experience with the game and as well as my time with the game.

My General Beginners Advice

Character Creation

For your character’s first class, do NOT choose Trooper since you can get that really early, like within the first 30 – 45 mins or so. Bene Jeserit is the last one people normally get access to. Which caste or planet you are from are purely cosmetic and only gives extra flavorful dialog options and that is it, so do not stress this.

The following advice may or may not work for you, but this is how I play quite a few games: Plan your first character as a throw away character so you can freely learn the game and the mechanics and not have to worry about making mistakes. When you feel you have learned the game enough and are ready to really commit to a character, then delete your current character and create your first real character. Also, keep in mind, if you do plan on deleting your first character so you can create a new one, remember to destroy the your fief(s) consoles at your base(s) so that you can claim the base with your new character to save you some work on your new character.

General Advice

Take your time and enjoy the story. They have recently released chapter 2 of the story and have 2 more chapters to go to be released about every 3 months over the next 6 months or so. The DLC story also continues with the next story update in the next 3 months or so too. Also, the end game is not done and needs to be fixed so there is no need to run to end game until they get that fixed.

As has been said here, the game’s Journeys are there to teach you the game’s mechanics and the game’s Contracts are more there to have you explore the game world more and to make sure you hit all of the major content types and areas. Just go through the process and follow the steps found in these and you will be pretty good to go.

Unlock the Trooper class (Griffin Reach) and the Planetologist (east of Griffin Reach above testing station) early if you can.

Complete your Trial missions early since they will unlock tech for you.

Save your money at the beginning if you can until you get to Vermiliious Gap to the Anvil tradepost and then buy some Mark II equipment there to speed up your progress.

The Lost Harvest DLC is iron/steel tier I think, so you may not get this mission until then, although, I am not sure.

Base Building

Elevate your fief 2 stories when you initially build it or you will lose out on 2 extra stories for building. I will try to find a video for this.

For your first base in Hagga Basin south, build the bare minimum (3×3 or 4×4) to get you by because soon enough you will be moving to the Vermilious Gap which will be your main base for quite a while. Good locations are at the northern border, central is great.

When it tells you to destroy your Hagga Basin south fief, destroy the fief’s console to make the journey happy and then build the sub fief again because you will still need this base for a while, at least until you are ready to establish your northern Hagga Basin base.

When it comes to base building in the Vermilious Gap (VG), good locations for VG are north-east and north-west VG near the borders to the next major areas. Both locations have their own advantages. Our guild base is north-west near an iron works location. My personal VG base is north-east, above the trade post. Build the bare minimum advanced fief first to make the Journey happy and then destroy the advanced fief console and then immediately replace it with a sub fief because you will want your advanced fief for either Hagga Basin north near the Deep Desert or as your Deep Desert Base. Once you make your VG base a sub fief then feel free to go wild with it. I have been in end game for over a month and still have my VG base and have recently completely updated it with more advanced stuff.

Private Server vs Public Server

My group plays on a private server, but it is really dead now which is a good thing and a bad thing. The good is that you do not have to worry about assholes and you can really focus on the game. The bad is that you do not have other people work with or interact with unless your private server itself and guild is busy or your DD is busy. I really like that my first character is on a private server so I can concentrate on the game and playing it. Since I have completed almost everything on my current main character, I am considering starting a new character on a public server so I can get that experience too.

Building Fiefs and Bases

General Fief Size Info

A basic sub-fief has a size of 6x6x8 foundations (or 5x5x7 if perfectly placed against a corner). An advanced sub-fief doubles this size, resulting in a 10x10x14 foundation area, according to some players on Reddit. These sizes refer to the buildable area determined by the sub-fief console and can be further expanded with staking units, says Game Rant

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  • Basic Sub-Fief: The base building area is defined by a 6x6x8 foundation grid (or 5x5x7 if starting at a corner).
  • Advanced Sub-Fief: This doubles the size of the basic sub-fief, resulting in a 10x10x14 foundation grid.
  • Staking Units: These can be placed to expand the buildable area beyond the initial console limits.
  • In-Game Measurements: One Reddit user calculated that the 10x10x14 advanced sub-fief translates to roughly 51m x 51m x 51m in-game, accounting for the 3m x 3m x 3m block size
